Orlando Opossum Removal

The only marsupial that can be found in North America is the opossum. Opossums live alone and are active at night, usually scavenging for fallen fruits and vegetables, or decomposing birds and insects. They prefer to not hunt for live prey. Opossums are actually relatives of the kangaroo, but are much smaller and much slower.

Since opossums generally go out at night, and like to stay hidden during the day, you may find them in your attic causing destruction. They’ll chew through wires, wood and drywall, leaving droppings behind and using your insulation to build a nest.

This is likely because they have discovered that your home or property is a fertile food source. They’ll also climb into insulation beneath your floors or travel through ductwork.

Friendly Service

They like to rummage through your kitchen, open garbage cans and will particularly go after your pet’s food. It is not uncommon to hear scurrying in your home at night when an opossum is in your home.

They like to keep to themselves, which means they’ll avoid confrontation, but if they feel threatened you may hear them hiss or screech. They can carry diseases and parasites and have also been known to bite and scratch if threatened and to tend to produce a nauseating odor.

Signs to look out for include damage to your building exterior, which can include damaged soffits, or torn up shingles. You may notice your pet’s food is missing, particularly if you leave cat food out. Hissing, shrieking, scratching and ripping noises can tell you there may be an opossum trapped inside your home. Opossums also tend to defecate more frequently than other mammals, causing an awful odor.

If you are experiencing any of these issues or are seeing signs of an opossum, please give us a call for wildlife removal services.
